We lean our breeding against the old race-type of the Chessies. A dog that is characterized by his look as well a by his ability in hunting and working (agility, dummy- or rescue-work etc.), that loves his family and is a part of it. It has to be said that Chessies sometimes have a strong character and a worth mentioning protecting, but also a strong will to work. You have to be aware of all these three things when interacting with them. Chessies are in fact retriever, that means: they do retrieve. But they cannot be compared with Labradors or Golden Retrievers !!!
We do breeding within the Deutscher Retriever Club aka DRC. (Not to be mixed up with the DRC-Soltau, which is not approved by the VDH). "Our" Club is associated with the VDH and although with the FCI. So it is guaranteed that the high requirements of the VDH and FCI are followed and that the papers of these dogs have high health requirements, examinations etc. and that only dogs with the VDH and FCI seal can do national and international examinations, shows and training without any problem. We don’t do the breeding in a commercial way and explicitly dissociate from the commercial breeding as you can see in the low number of litter within the last 5 years.
The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a fascinating race; if you come in contact with their intelligence, their mind, their love to know people, their sometimes strong character and their look and start a friendship or even see them as a family member, you will appreciate that rare dog race admire their uniqueness.
Recommendation of a book: "Die Bucht" by Robert Michner. 4 centuries of development and experience of the Chesapeake Bay are described here. 2 chapters characterize the relationship to the dogs, the Labradors and the Chessies.
